Byrek (Albanian Savory Pie)

 Byrek is a flaky pastry, often filled with spinach, cheese, or meat.



Ingredients:

  • 500g phyllo dough
  • 400g feta cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 250g spinach (optional)
  • Olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling: Crumble feta cheese in a bowl. You can add spinach for a vegetarian version or other fillings like ground meat or leeks. Mix with eggs, salt, and pepper.
  2. Assemble: Brush each layer of phyllo dough with oil or melted butter. After layering half of the sheets, add the filling, then cover with the remaining dough.
  3. Bake: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
