Byrek is a flaky pastry, often filled with spinach, cheese, or meat.
Ingredients:
- 500g phyllo dough
- 400g feta cheese
- 2 eggs
- 250g spinach (optional)
- Olive oil or melted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the filling: Crumble feta cheese in a bowl. You can add spinach for a vegetarian version or other fillings like ground meat or leeks. Mix with eggs, salt, and pepper.
- Assemble: Brush each layer of phyllo dough with oil or melted butter. After layering half of the sheets, add the filling, then cover with the remaining dough.
- Bake: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
